Travel Support

Three types of travel support for presenting authors are available.

(1) ISITA Young Researcher Travel Grant First author, younger than 36 years old, with unfunded travel expenses
(2) MCB Developing Nation Travel Support First author from, and residing in, developing nation
(3) MCB Developing Nation Travel Support for Students First author, student, passport-holder of developing nation

Please carefully read the instructions below on how to make an application.

Note that we also have a paper award provided by the IEEE Information Theory Society Japan Chapter. This is an independent award; if eligible, you may apply for the paper award even if you applied for the travel grant.

(1) ISITA Young Researcher Travel Grant

ISITA2014 provides financial support for a part of the travel expenses for ISITA2014 participants.

Requirements for Applicants

Applicants must satisfy all the following requirements:

  1. You must be younger than 36 years old on 1 April 2014.
  2. Your travel expenses must not be fully paid by any organization, and your supervisor can confirm that your travel expense is not fully paid by any organization. We may contact your supervisor.
  3. You must be the first author of an accepted paper.
  4. You must have completed your registration before the application.
  5. You must agree to give your presentation in person at the symposium.

Applicants are not allowed to apply for the MCB Developing Nation Travel Support. Applicants are allowed to apply for the MCB Developing Nation Travel Support for Students.

Details of Grant

A part of the travel expense may be granted. The financial support will be paid during the symposium after your presentation. You will be notified of the specific time and place by the Finance Chair. At the time of receipt, you must submit a Session Chair Confirmations Sheet with your session chairperson’s signature that certifies that you made your presentation. Please note that the support will not be provided before your presentation.

How to Apply

You should fill in the application form, print and sign it. The signed application form must be scanned in PDF or JPEG format, and submitted via e-mail. We do not accept electronically signed application forms. Send the application form by e-mail to following address:

The e-mail subject should be “Application for ISITA2014 Travel Grant.” You need to register for the Symposium before applying for this travel grant. You will receive an acknowledgment of the receipt of the application form within a week. The application deadline is 20 July 2014. The result will be notified by 8 September 2014.

Inquiries Inquiries are accepted by e-mail only addressed to isita2014-travel-grant@ict.cei.uec.ac.jp, with the subject “Inquiry about ISITA2014 Travel Grant.”

(2) MCB Developing Nation Travel Support

The Melbourne Convention and Visitors Bureau (MCB) provides financial support for participants from developing nations. ISITA2014 endorses this support because it promotes international academic activities at the symposium. The details of the support are summarized as follows.

Requirements for Applicants

Applicants must satisfy all the following requirements:

  1. You must be a resident of a developing nation. The list of countries is given by MCB. Students are regarded as residents of the country where their university or institution is located.
  2. You must be the first author of an accepted paper.
  3. You must have completed your registration before the application.
  4. You must agree to give your presentation in person at the symposium.

Applicants are not allowed to apply for the ISITA Young Researcher Travel Grant.

Details of Support

A part of your travel expenses will be supported. It will be paid by MCB after your presentation. You will be notified of the results by 8 September 2014.

To apply, fill in the application form, print and sign. The signed application form must be scanned in PDF or JPEG format, and submitted through e-mail. We do not accept an electronically signed application form. Send the application form by e-mail to the following address:

(3) MCB Developing Nation Travel Support for Students

The Melbourne Convention and Visitors Bureau (MCB) provides financial support for students from developing nations. ISITA2014 endorses this support because it promotes international academic activities at the symposium.

This travel support is for students. A student who is a passport-holder of a developing nation can apply for this support even if the student is studying at a university in a non-developing nation. This condition is different from those of the “MCB Developing Nation Travel Support.”

The details of the support are summarized as follows.

Requirements for Applicants

Applicants must satisfy all the following requirements:

  1. You must be a passport-holder of a developing nation. The list of developing countries is given by MCB.
  2. You must be an undergraduate, masters or doctoral student.
  3. You must be the first author of an accepted paper.
  4. You must have completed your registration before the application.
  5. You must agree to give your presentation in person at the symposium.

Applicants are allowed to apply for the ISITA Young Researcher Travel Grant.

Details of Support

A part of your travel expenses will be supported. It will be paid after your presentation. You will be notified of the results by 30 September 2014. Note that not all the applications will be granted because the budget for this support is limited.
