Message from
the General Co-Chairs

It is our great pleasure to welcome you to the 2014 International Symposium on Information Theory and its Applications (ISITA2014).

ISITA is an international symposium originally founded by Society of Information Theory and its Applications of Japan in 1990, and has been held every two years so far. After reorganizing the society as one of the research societies of the Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers (IEICE) in 2011, ISITA2014 is now the second symposium sponsored by the new-born IEICE Research Society of Information Theory and its Applications.

We feel confident that ISITA2014 will contribute to strengthen the connections among researchers in different areas in the world, as they discuss topics of common interest in the field of information theory and its applications, and will serve as an exciting forum for interdisciplinary interaction. We also hope that ISITA2014 will encourage young people to pursue research in this field.

We thank the Technical Program Co-Chairs Hidetoshi Yokoo and Stephen Hanly who, with the help of the technical program committee members, formed an excellent technical program. We would like to thank our plenary speakers Guiseppe Caire and Hirosuke Yamamoto for accepting our invitation.

Thanks are also due to the members of the Committees associated with ISITA2014 for their hard works offered to the success of this symposium. Finally, we would like to thank all contributors and attendees of ISITA2014. We wish everybody a pleasant and fruitful stay in Melbourne.

Hiroyoshi Morita and
Emanuele Viterbo,
General Co-Chairs

Message from the Technical Program Committee Co-Chairs

As the TPC Co-Chairs, we welcome you to the 2014 International Symposium on Information Theory and its Applications, ISITA 2014. In response to the call for papers, we received 174 submissions from all over the world. Each submission has been reviewed by at least two reviewers and a total of 135 papers have been selected for presentation and inclusion in the proceedings. We deeply appreciate the hard work of the authors and reviewers, as well as the diligent work of the 48 members of the Technical Program Committee. In addition to the paper presentations of the program, we are fortunate to have plenary lectures by two invited speakers: Giuseppe Caire and Hirosuke Yamamoto. We would like to express our gratitude to our distinguished speakers.

For the first time in ISITA history, we feature two new events, the Organized Special Sessions and the Recent Result Poster Session. We would like to thank Terence Chan, Masahito Hayashi, Yasuyuki Nogami, and Bane Vasic for organizing informative and stimulating sessions. We would like also to thank all the authors and speakers for agreeing to present in the organized sessions. The wonderful program, including the new events, has been realized thanks to the dedicated efforts of our secretary, Hideki Yagi, and student volunteers. We are also grateful to TPC members who gathered in Tokyo to organize the program. We believe that the program will stimulate you to develop your own ideas and theories.

Stephen Hanly and
Hidetoshi Yokoo,
TPC Co-Chairs for ISITA 2014
